“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” These words, from the ever so clever Dr. Seuss, bring a dose of reality to my over-flowing heart. When I began this new journey as a teacher at Trinitas Christian School, I had no idea what splendid moments awaited me. Others told me how wonderful Trinitas was; but in the back of my mind, I saw a school with children–children, who had terms to memorize and tests to take. A school just like any other. But, the very first time I walked the halls of Trinitas Christian School, I knew something was very different. Something inside of me yearned to be a part of such a unique community. This brief moment of realization has now become a valuable memory.
The choice to come to Trinitas has proved to be a fulfilling and excellent one. The staff welcomed me with open arms and prepared me for the most endearing task of all, educating and most importantly loving your children. As I eagerly awaited meeting both parents and students, I was assured that I would find Trinitas families to be welcoming and kind. Once again, my thoughts erred on the side of caution with the reality that this interaction would be the same as any other parent/teacher/student interaction I have had in the past. Yet again, a drastic contrast presented itself. Parents and students alike showed their kindness and welcomed me with enthusiasm.
Now, the first days have come and gone. Children are memorizing terms and taking tests. Parents are checking math problems and packing lunches; and teachers are grading and burning the midnight oil trying to get that lesson just right. But, the spirit remains the same. The feeling where one sits down with a huge sigh of a relief and realizes, “This is home.” A moment occurs that now becomes an unforgettable memory, and such describes my first experience with my new “home,” Trinitas Christian School.
