This week, our 5th grade students enjoyed Founding Father’s Day! They celebrated the men who helped the colonies gain independence from England in various ways. The students each researched, wrote, and delivered a speech while in character on one of the historical men or their wives. After hearing the speeches, they enjoyed a very common practice of early America, a proper tea. This included three kinds of tea as well as etiquette lessons of the day in serving and being a guest at a formal tea. The children enjoyed three courses full of wonderful savories and sweets which included delights like shrimp tartlets, lemon curd, and sweet tarts topped with fresh fruit. The festivities concluded as the children learned the popular dance of the time, the Minuet. The day was a wonderful success with many smiles to show their appreciation of all hands that help it come together.
